Fatima Sana Shaikh on Alia, Kangana’s ‘commercial viability’: Don’t know what it takes…

From her first film ‘Dangal’ to her latest film ‘Dhak Dhak’, Fatima Sana Shaikh loves to push the envelope. In seven years of her Bollywood journey, Fatima has successfully managed to prove her versatility. The actress’ recent release, ‘Dhak Dhak’, starring Ratna Pathak Shah, Dia Mirza and Sanjana Sanghi, has been getting positive responses from the critics and audience alike. The film was co-produced by Taapsee Pannu. It released on October 13.

She spoke to IndiaToday.in about her career, female-led films, Alia Bhatt, Kangana Ranaut and the Khans’.

Excerpts from the conversation:

ON FEMALE-LED FILMS

‘Dhak Dhak’ is one of the few Hindi films that boast a strong ensemble of female cast. During an exclusive chat with IndiaToday.in, Fatima was asked if the industry is now ready for a big-budget female-led film just like Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jawan’. She quickly replied, “Of course, why not?”

ON ALIA-KANGANA’S ‘COMMERCIAL VIABILITY’

Elucidating the same, Fatima said, “Actors like Alia Bhatt and Kangana Ranaut have commercial viability because of which the audience goes and watches their films. I don’t know what it takes to achieve that stardom. It’s very rare now these Khans are still able to sustain that, otherwise, it’s still box office to box office for a lot of actors, even at that stage. There are very few actors who can still pull that audience irrespective of money.”

Meanwhile, Fatima will next be seen in Meghna Gulzar’s directorial, ‘Sam Bahadur’. She also has Anurag Basu’s ‘Metro In Dino’ opposite Aditya Roy Kapur in the pipeline.
