HD Kumaraswamy’s barb at DK Shivakumar: ‘Might go to Tihar Jail forever’

Former Karnataka Chief Minister and JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy on Tuesday jabbed Congress leader DK Shivakumar, saying the latter might go to Delhi’s Tihar Jail “forever”.

The remark comes as Shivakumar faces as many as 19 cases against him, including a few that are being investigated by central agencies – CBI, ED and Income Tax Department.

Talking about JDS’s prior coalition government with the grand old party, Kumaraswamy said that the regime was made “out of necessity” and everyone, including him are “facing challenges because of that decision”.

“I have never compromised with them (Congress) throughout my life,” the former Karnataka CM said.

Hinting at Shivakumar’s jail term in a money laundering case in 2019, Kumaraswamy said that the Congress party has “already experienced that place (prison)…If they choose to go there permanently, there is little we can do”.

“At the very least, we will go to Hassan (jail)…but not to Tihar,” the former CM said, adding that now the time is to wait and see “what unfolds in the coming year”.

Ahead of the crucial 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the JDS has forged an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to take on the current ruling party – Congress. Earlier, the JDS-Congress alliance was in power in Karnataka before it collapsed due to mass defection of legislators in 2020.
