Maruti Suzuki India, a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, has started exporting the five-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny, an SUV exclusively manufactured in India. The vehicle is being shipped to various destinations, including countries in Latin America, the Middle East and Africa.
The company started producing the three-door Jimny exclusively for exports in November 2020. It launched the five-door Jimny for the domestic market in June 2023.
“The Jimny has strengthened Maruti Suzuki’s presence in SUV segment. This lifestyle SUV has especially appealed to customers who enjoy off-roading experience through tough terrains. The India-manufactured Jimny 5-Door in our export portfolio will surely create excitement among our overseas customers,” said Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India.
“Aligning with the Government of India’s ‘Make-in-India’ initiative, our company now exports an extensive range of 17 vehicles across segments. We remain committed in our efforts to sustain leadership in export of India-manufactured passenger vehicles,” he added.
Maruti’s product portfolio includes four SUVs – Fronx, Brezza, Jimny, and Grand Vitara – all of which are exported. The carmaker ships its vehicles to nearly 100 countries across Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.
Maruti made its first significant export of 500 cars to Hungary in September 1987.
The company was the largest exporter of passenger vehicles from India in 2021 and 2022, shipping 205,450 units and 263,068 units respectively. This achievement was made possible by the addition of more models and support from Suzuki Motor Corporation, allowing Maruti to leverage a wider distribution network worldwide.
