Mercedes-Maybach and Space Perspective partner up for luxury space travel

Imagine chilling in an ultra-luxury capsule 100,000ft above the Earth’s surface surrounded by the deep blackness of space and splendid views of our planet below. It sounds unreal, but that’s exactly what Space Perspective aims to enable in partnership with Mercedes-Maybach.

The capsule will float 100,000ft above the Earth’s surface right at the edge of space. Commercial flights planned for as soon as end-2024.

Spaceship Neptune will ferry ‘Explorers’ from Earth to a height of 100,000ft propelled by its SpaceBalloon on a six-hour journey. It has been designed to be gentle on its passengers with a slow ascent into space eliminating any intense G-forces one might experience otherwise. The pressurised capsule promises a world-class travel experience including meals and cocktails as you float around, before descending back towards Earth. It has space for eight plus the captain and is equipped with wifi and a lavatory.

The capsule’s customizable interior cabin accommodates eight explorers and a captain and includes a world-class travel experience complete with meal and cocktail service.

Mercedes-Maybach will take charge of on-ground transportation with its EVs like the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV matching the carbon-neutral flight experience created by Space Enterprise.

“In line with the sustainable mindset of Space Perspective, Mercedes-Maybach will provide all-electric vehicles to shuttle Explorers and guests to and from Space Perspective facilities, local activities and the launch site on Florida’s Space Coast. Thanks to this partnership, Space Perspective customers will be able to ride comfortably and sustainably to and from their trips to the edge of space.”

And if you think all this sounds like an experience that will be offered to general public only 5-6 years down the line, think again. Testing is already underway and Space Perspective intends to start commercial flights by the end of 2024! Bookings can be made via Space Perspective’s official website and each ticket costs USD 125,000 (~ Rs 1.04 crore). That’s a lot of money, but it also buys you an insane travel experience. The company says 1,650 people have already put the money down on a ticket to space aboard their spaceship.

Besides partnering up for on-ground transportation, Mercedes-Maybach is also exploring design and hospitality integrations with Space Perspective and there aren’t many who understand and execute luxury transportation quite like Mercedes-Maybach does.

Those boarding the commercial flight will be ferried in opulence in the likes of the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV.

Commenting on the announcement, Daniel Lescow, Head of Mercedes-Maybach at Mercedes-Benz Group AG said, “Our partnership with Space Perspective will allow space explorers to ride in style on the ground, and for us to extend the highest level of Maybach refinement and brand experience to the edge of space.”

“Pairing our all-electric Spaceship Neptune with the all-electric Mercedes-Maybach represents a sustainable and inspiration-filled future, not to mention a heightened overall experience for Space Perspective Explorers,” said Jane Poynter, Founder and Co-CEO of Space Perspective.
