War with Hamas, clashes with Lebanon, Syria: How Israel faces attack on 3 fronts

Israel’s forces have been carrying out retaliatory attacks on Gaza after Hamas terrorists infiltrated its border on Saturday morning. While Israeli forces battle Hamas terrorists, it is also facing trouble from the Lebanon and Syrian side.

At present, Israel is facing bombardment from three sides- Hamas attacking from Gaza, clashes with Lebanon’s Hezbollah, and artillery fire from Syria. While the situation with Lebanon and Syria has yet to break out into full-scale conflict, the situation remains tense for Israel.

Hamas terrorists launched a large-scale surprise attack against Israel on Saturday, firing a barrage of rockets from the Gaza Strip. Regarded as one of the biggest attacks on Israel in years, Hamas launched around 5,000 rockets from Gaza to Israel.

Hamas gunmen breached security barriers in Gaza and launched an attack on civilians.

In response to Hamas terrorists’ deadly incursion, Israel launched air strikes on the Gaza strip. The heavy bombardment by Israel caused widespread destruction in Gaza.

Over 3,000 people have been killed in the Israel-Palestine war so far.

A day after a surprise attack by Hamas, Lebanon’s powerful armed group Hezbollah also exchanged artillery and rocket fire with Israel.

Hezbollah said it had launched guided rockets and artillery onto three posts in the Shebaa Farms “in solidarity” with the Palestinian people. “Our history, our guns and our rockets are with you,” senior Hezbollah official Hashem Safieddine was quoted as saying by Reuters.

On Wednesday, Israel and Hezbollah traded fire for a fourth day, with the Israeli military saying that one of its northern positions was attacked with anti-tank fire from Lebanon.

Earlier this week, Hezbollah said three of its members had been killed in Israeli strikes on south Lebanon.

Israel’s military on Tuesday said that a number of shells had been launched from Syrian territory toward Israel. There were no reports of casualties.

As the conflict escalated between Israel and Hamas, and with Lebanon and Syria targeting Israel as well, there are fears of the situation escalating into a wider regional war. Moreover, there is also uncertainty over the role of Iran, which has been vocal in support of the Palestinians. Iran, for its part, has denied any active involvement in the Israel-Hamas war.
