Will check what was spoken: Pinarayi Vijayan on pro-Palestine rally in Kerala

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday said his government would look into what was spoken at a recent pro-Palestine rally which was virtually attended by the leader of the Hamas terrorist group.

Several leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) objected to the rally after a video of former Hamas chief Khaled Mashal went viral on social media where he was seen addressing the event. According to reports, the rally was organised by Solidarity Youth Movement, the youth wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, on October 27 in Malappuram.

Speaking to objections raised over the event, Pinarayi Vijayan said, “We have to check what was spoken there. I think it was a recorded message. It is also worth noting that if Jamaat-e- Islami is organising an event, police will normally give permission.”

Extending his support for the people of Palestine, the Kerala Chief Minister said that Union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar and his friends are trying to register a case against all those who carry out a Palestine solidarity rally. “This won’t happen as we are with Palestine,” Pinarayi Vijayan said.

Pinarayi Vijayan also lashed out at Rajeev Chandrasekhar for his remarks about Kerala serial blasts, which he linked to the Malappuram rally attended by former Hamas chief Khaled Mashal.

“There is something he should remember that he is a Union minister. He should have faith in investigative agencies. Yesterday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah called me. I told him that the incident was unfortunate. Investigation is going on. If there is any aid needed, we will communicate,” Pinarayi Vijayan said.

“Rajeev Chandrasekhar is not just poison but very potent venom,” he added.

During the pro-Palestine rally on October 27, Hamas chief Khaled Mashal said, “Together, we will defeat Zionists and we will stand united for Gaza, which is fighting for Al-Aqsa. Israel is taking revenge on our residents”.

Kerala BJP president K Surendran condemned the rally and stated it was “alarming” that such a thing is happening in Kerala. He also questioned what Pinarayi Vijayan and the Kerala Police were doing.

Even the Israeli envoy to India, Naor Gilon, called the event “unbelievable”, adding that it took place “under the slogan Uproot bulldozer Hindutva & Apartheid Zionism”.
